La Revue du vin de France publication recognized the production of quality wines in every part of Spain, from Priorat and Bierzo to Conca de Barberà
Spanish wines are in the spotlight in France at the moment thanks to a special feature in La Revue du vin de France, the country’s most prestigious wine publication.
The article refers to “two incredible centuries of wines from Spain,” confirming La Rioja’s long-lasting dominant position, until the 1980s. However, it notes that Spain’s winemakers are making outstanding wines in practically every part of the country, wines which are “notable, the pride of vineyards that reaffirm their independence,” according to a report in lavanguardia.com.
The article goes on to note that Spain’s winemaking heritage “has finally been recognized.” In fact, Álvaro Palacios, the famous Rioja winemaker, even said, “Respect from our French counterparts is the greatest possible recognition.” The general director of the Spanish Wine Market Observatory, Rafael del Rey, concurred, saying “It’s good news that the largest and most admired wine producing country recognizes Spain as a leading producer of quality wines.”
Highlighted wines include Pingus, from Ribera del Duero; La Faraona, from Bierzo; el Quiñón de Valmira, from Rioja; Terreus Pago de Cueva Baja, from VT Castilla y León; La Tumba del Re Moro, from Vinos de Madrid; Les Manyes de Terroir al Límit, from Priorat; and Gran Murallas, from Conca de Barberà.
La Revue du vin de France is published monthly and has been circulating since 1927. It’s available in print and also online and offers wine ratings, commentary and editorials. Wine critic Jancis Robinson has described it as “France’s only serious wine magazine.”
