Bodegas Faustino from DOCa Rioja has officially opened its highly anticipated new building in Oyón, Álava, designed by the world-renowned architect Norman Foster. This cutting-edge facility marks the launch of Legado Bodegas Faustino, a unique Planeta 1.0 wine tourism project aimed at offering experiences around wine, vineyards, nature, architecture, culture, and sustainability. The unveiling, which took place during a special evening event, was attended by prominent figures and Foster himself.
Designed in collaboration with Foster + Partners, Legado Bodegas Faustino exemplifies the four pillars of the Martínez Zabala family: Family, Vineyards, Innovation, and Sustainability. The new facility integrates all these elements seamlessly, offering a one-of-a-kind experience for visitors while championing environmentally conscious design. Norman Foster pointed out that the building is not just an architectural marvel but a fully sustainable creation. Utilizing the latest photovoltaic technology, it generates more energy than it consumes, contributing to Faustino's commitment to sustainability. “The building literally powers Faustino,” said Foster, explaining how this self-sustaining structure is part of their Energy Plus strategy.
The winery's unique design extends beyond the building itself, incorporating the vineyards directly into the visitor experience, offering a deeper connection to the land and the wine-making process. With the ability to absorb carbon emissions naturally, the building aligns perfectly with Bodegas Faustino’s ongoing efforts toward environmental sustainability.
