Spanish Olive Oils Triumph at the SIAL Canada Olive d’Or Competition

Spanish oils took home gold, silver and bronze medals in each category after competing with 100 candidates from 15 different countries

SIAL Canada, known as the largest food innovation trade fair in North America, just wrapped up on May 2nd after another successful edition. Spanish companies took advantage of this opportunity to network and raise awareness about their brands.

They also performed especially well at the Olive d’Or 2019 international extra virgin olive oil contest, held as part of the fair. Around 100 contestants from 15 different countries competed, and were judged by a panel of experts. Winners were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals in various categories.

In the “Ripe Fruitiness” category, Spain took the silver and bronze medals. The winners were Almaoliva – Almazaras de la Subbética and Oro Bailén Arbequina – Aceites Oro Bailén Galgón 99 SLU, respectively. In the “Intense Fruit Flavor” category, Spain won the gold and silver medals. They went to Oro Bailén Hojiblanca - Aceites Oro Bailén Galgón 99 SLU and Almaoliva Bio – Almazaras de la Subbética, respectively.

In the “Medium Fruit Flavor” category, Spain took home the gold and the silver distinctions. They were Mueloliva Picuda - Muela Olives SL and Oro del Desierto Hijoblanca – Rafael Alonso Aguilera SL, respectively.

And lastly, in the “Light Fruit Flavor” category, Spain won the gold, silver and bronze. The winners were Venta del Barón – Muela Olives SL, Rincon de la Subbética – Almazaras de la Subbética, and Oro Bailén Picual – Aceites Oro Bailén Galgón 99 SLU, respectively.
