Several Spanish chefs are celebrating at the moment, following the presentation of the 2019 Michelin Guide to Spain and Portugal, held in Lisbon.
The big winner of the evening was Martín Berasategui, who sealed the deal on his 10th Michelin star. This makes him the chef with the most stars in Spain and fourth in the world, trailing Robuchon, Ducasse and Ramsay. Said Berasategui, “Every time I have received a Michelin star I feel like I’ve touched heaven with my fingertips, dressed like a chef,” according to elmundo.es.
Dani García, who runs his eponymous restaurant in Marbella, received a third Michelin star and was the only Spanish restaurant to do so. This makes it the 11th Spanish restaurant to bear three of the coveted stars. García was recognized for “reinventing Andalusian cuisine with a modern twist, with the result that each dish tells a different story based on a product with local, traditional roots".
Several Spaniards received their second Michelin star, such as Ricard Camarena (Ricard Camarena Restaurant, in Valencia); the Torres brothers (Cocina Hermanos Torres, in Barcelona); and the restaurant El Molino de Urdaniz (in Navarre).
And plenty of locales received their first Michelin stars, 22 of them to be exact. This impressive includes La Tasquería, Clos Madrid, El Invernadero, Trivio, Bagá, El Xato, A Tafona, El Molino de Alcuneza and Cancook.
