Another day, another award for Carme Ruscalleda. It was recently announced that the chef would receive the Premio Homenaje (the Homage Award) at the upcoming food conference, San Sebastian Gastronomika, to be held this October, from the 6th to the 9th. She will be honored alongside two other chefs: Denis Courtiade and Cristina Jolonch. This is an enormous distinction for Ruscalleda, and the previous winner was none other than Juan Mari Arzak.
Said the conference’s technical committee, “Carme Ruscalleda is the ultimate example of how to convert a landscape and a secret into a cultural and gastronomic story,” calling her a “symbol of the Spanish culinary revolution.” The committee comprises industry heavyweights including Martin Berasategui, Eneko Atxa, Josean Alija, Pedro Subijana, and Andoni Luis Aduriz, among others. This fall will be the 21st edition of San Sebastian Gastronomika.
Ruscalleda, who has 7 Michelin stars, closed down her Sant Pau restaurant in Barcelona about a year ago; however, she still runs Sant Pau in Tokyo, Japan. She is also head chef at Moments, a restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Barcelona. She will receive the award on October 7th.
