A recently-published article in the Wine Journal section of Robert Parker’s magazine Wine Advocate was written by well-known wine critic Luis Gutiérrez and featured a selection of his favorite places—bars, restaurants and shops—for wine in Madrid.

His detailed list includes Angelita Madrid, which is right in the city center and offers a unique hand-picked wine list full of interesting options. It’s run by the Villalón brothers, who are “always in search of old vintages, unheard of and hard-to-find names.” A’barra, a new and fashionable restaurant, also made the list, and it stands out for its selection of wines, which includes some of the world’s very best.
For sherry fans, Gutiérrez recommends El Corral de la Morería, which combines spectacular live flamenco with the very best sherries in Spain.

For those who like to enjoy their wine at home, head to Enoteca Barolo, where the owners endeavor to sell wines from Spain’s most cutting-edge producers. For something somewhere in the middle, visit La Fisna, which is a wine shop and bar, so you can drink your wine there and/or take a bottle home with you.

They serve an excellent selection, which can also be enjoyed with tapas or raciones.

Finally, Gutiérrez likes Restaurante Vinoteca García de la Navarra, which offers some of the most iconic wines from Ribera del Duero, Rioja and Rías Baixas, among other parts of the world.
In short, an excellent overview of unique places to enjoy unique wines from a leading wine expert.
