Asturias is located in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula right in the heart of Green Spain. It has more than one million inhabitants and it is one of the 17 Autonomous Communities that go to make up the Spanish state, forming part of the European Union and the Eurozone. It has an Atlantic climate, enjoying mild temperatures all the year round.

The agri-food industry is of paramount importance in the industrial activity of Asturias in light of the current characteristics of the sector. Tradition and innovation are two concepts that go hand in hand in a sector with great growth potential, with their cheeses, cider, tinned fish and seafood being just a few of their renowned delicacies.

As the Trade Promotion Agency of the Principality of Asturias, ASTUREX’ mission is to promote the exports of regional companies and facilitate their international expansion. It was established in 2005 from a joint commitment of all regional agents, public and private, involved in business and economy internationalization.

ASOCIACIÓN INTERPROFESIONAL DEL CERDO IBERICO (ASICI):

ASICI, the trade association of Iberian ham producers, is a non-profit inter-professional organisation of the food and agricultural industry (Organización Interprofesional Agroalimentaria, OIA), in which more than 95 percent of the organisations of production (livestock farmers) and more than 95 percent of the processors (industry) of Iberian pork are equally represented.

It was founded in 1992 and recognised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in 1999 as an inter-professional organisation for the Ibérico pig sector.
