Mouth-Watering Spanish Sandwich Fillers Crave - Bocadillo Style!

Using ingredients from Spain, you can turn a simple sandwich into a gourmet feed. Read on for these bocadillo brainstormers that will give your sandwich a new and tasty Spanish slant!

Hand held, accessible and versatile, the sandwich is enjoying a moment right now. We’re not talking anemic egg or tuna salad here - today’s sandwich is all about global influences and gourmet fillings. In Spain, the bocadillo or bocata consists of high quality ingredients within a fresh, crunchy baguette-style bread - it is built to resist going soggy! So, what better cuisine to shape your next lunch - or dinner - bite than the home of the bocadillo. That’s right, with these ingredients from Spain you can turn a quick meal option into a gourmet feed!

Chorizo con Tomate - Spain’s smoky paprika-packed cured sausage, the thinly sliced version of chorizo, makes an excellent sandwich partner with some slices of fresh ripe salad tomato. If you want to fill it out, add some lettuce leaves, for a creative twist on a BLT. But hold the mayo!

Bonito del Norte con Pimiento Piquillo - Artisanal conserves, such as the most flavorful Spanish tuna, bonito del norte, plus canned little piquillo peppers, make a powerful, umami and sweet bocadillo pairing. Or you can go one step further and turn this into the best tuna melt the world has ever seen!

Huevo con Aioli - Update your egg sandwich with Spanish aioli. Sliced hard-boiled egg with a smothering of this garlicky mayo will take it to the next level. Oh, and you can add some thin slices of sweet onion for extra crunch, or jamón serrano, to make it into a proper brunch!

Jamón Serrano or Ibérico con Manchego - By combining jamón  cured ham together with a soft, semi-cured Manchego cheese, or your favorite cheese from Spain, you will create Spain’s iconic ultra-savory bocata  (sandwich combo). Think thinly sliced Manchego, because a little goes a long way with this umami bomb.

Although these bocadillos need no garnish, a little drizzle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, from Spain of course, is highly recommended, adding a healthy dose of nutrients and unbeatable Spanish flavor!
