José Andrés to be Presented With American Express Icon Award 2019

The chef is being recognized for using his “culinary talents to contribute to a greater purpose” and feeding people suffering from natural disasters

José Andrés is about to take home another award. This time it’s the American Express Icon Award 2019, which will be presented as part of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants ceremony on June 25th, in Singapore.

The chef has indubitably made a name for himself with his successful restaurants and culinary projects across the US, from Jaleo in Disney Springs to his Pepe food truck in Washington, DC to Mercado Little Spain in New York City. At present, he has more than 30 restaurants, all part of his company ThinkFoodGroup.

But the reason he’s considered an icon and a role model is his commitment to helping people in need. He created his non-profit, World Central Kitchen, in 2010, which aims to feed people affected by natural disasters.

Said William Drew, Director of Content for The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, “As well as being an excellent chef and restaurateur, José Andrés not only brings fantastic, authentic and forward-looking Spanish food to the US, he [has] also helped millions of people… who don’t have access to food as a result of natural disasters.

The fact that chef Andrés is a chef who uses his culinary talents to contribute to a greater purpose and society at large makes him the perfect winner of the first global American Express Icon Award,” according to gastromasa.com.tr.
