Miami’s got a new Spanish restaurant by the name of Alma. Located in Coconut Grove, it offers customers the flavors of Spain with influences from Asia. Run by a husband and wife duo, chef Sergio Chamizo has plenty of experience working and staging in Michelin-star restaurants, but finally decided to open his own business.

“Miami is going through a culinary renaissance, with so many interesting places opening… This was the right time to add to that growth and continue expanding the culinary scene in the city,” he said, according to miaminewtimes.com.

Chamizo offers a modern take on tapas, with dishes like baby spinach, Valdeon cheese, pear, roasted Marcona almonds and sherry vinaigrette; pa amb tomàquet, Cantabrian anchovies, chives and Arbequina olive oil; and blistered padron peppers, soy-sherry and Idiazabal cheese. He serves a selection of Spanish cheeses and Ibérico products such as chorizo, lomo and salchichón. Desserts are also highly creative, from the caramelized torrija brioche, coconut sorbet and pink guava to the chocolate with olive oil and toast.

Alma offers a small but high-quality selection of red and white wines, as well as cava and sherry, featuring standouts from Bierzo, Rías Baixas, Penedès, Toro, Rioja and Jumilla, among others. It also serves Spanish beer.
This new kid on the block is going to give other Miami restaurants a run for their money by offering a unique selection of dishes and flavors that pay homage to Spain.
