Spanish Olive Oils Perform Spectacularly at Olive Oil Awards 2019 in Zurich

Of the 33 medals awarded in the gold, silver, and bronze categories, 18 went to Spanish olive oils

Olive Oil Awards 2019 in Zurich

A recent competition in Switzerland saw Spanish oils nab some of the top distinctions. At the Olive Oil Awards 2019, presented by ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences, an impressive 7 of the 8 oils to take home the highest honor, a gold medal, were Spanish. They were Dominus Cosecha Temprana, Palacio de los Olivos, Knolive Epicure, Melgarejo Premium Hojiblanca, Rincón de la Subbética, Venta del Barón, and Finca La Torre Selección. What’s more, the latter’s oil, made from Hojiblanca olives, was recognized as being the best organic oil of 2019 and the best single-variety oil as well.

Several Spanish oils also took home silver medals. They were Coop Naturaplan Olivenöl, Pajarero, Hiaspur Gold, Parqueoliva Serie Oro, Valdenvero Hojiblanco, El Empiedro, and Oleum Hispania Hojiblanco.
Bronze medal winners from Spain included Melgarejo Premium Arbequina, Prólogo, Carbonell Magna Oliva, and La Cartujana.

The oils were assessed by a panel of judges from 8 countries. In total, they awarded 33 distinctions: 8 gold, 15 silver, and 10 bronze medals. Of the total, Spanish oils took home 18 awards.

Products from Spain will remain in the spotlight in Zurich when, on September 30th, the Spanish Extravaganza gourmet food event will be held, sponsored by ICEX and Foods & Wines from Spain.
