Great news for Spanish food fans in Hong Kong. A new, modern restaurant has opened its doors, promising to bring a wholly authentic experience to local diners.

Pica Pica is helmed by Spanish chef Edgar Sanuy Barahona, who teamed up with Epicurean Group to launch this new project. Sanuy is expected to “deliver a produce-driven menu celebrating the vitality and vibrancy of communal-style Spanish small plates,” according to lifestyleasia.com. It only recently opened for business in Sheung Wan, located west of the main business district.

Menu highlights include squid and Iberico ham croquettes, Wagyu beef tartar with green apple sorbet, Atlantic wild hake with pisto Manchego, baby squid stuffed with morcilla sausage and ink sauce, and deboned suckling pig with sweet potato puree and raw spinach. Sanuy will also serve a selection of rice dishes, including paella and fideua. His focus is to offer traditional dishes with his own modern twist.

Barahona is a veteran chef with an impressive resume that has taken him around the world. He began working in Barcelona, where he was named Chef of the Year as part of the Foodie Forks Award for his work at BCN. Later he went on to train in Japan and he ended up in Hong Kong as a corporate chef for Maximal Concepts, which runs several award-winning restaurants.

This new venture will get him back in the kitchen and acting as an ambassador for Spanish flavors in Hong Kong.
