Spanish Food and Wine get Special Treatment at “A Taste of Spain” at Vinexpo

The objective is to show Spain’s evolving food scene and its many unknown but stellar wines


Spanish food will be on everyone’s lips on June 19th, thanks to José Andrés and Ferran Adrià, and others. The two culinary superstars picked the chef line-up for the exclusive, invitation-only “A Taste of Spain” event, which is being sponsored by Wine Spectator and Vinexpo.

Andrés and Adrià carefully selected a dozen young, innovative chefs to each represent one of Spain’s wine regions and to prepare dishes to be paired with some of the country’s top wines. They include Marcos Morán, Javier Olleros, Pablo Loureiro and Diego Gallegos. Wine Spectator also selected 110 wine producers from Spain, with the result that it’s “expected to be one of the largest Spanish wine-and-food events ever held outside Spain,” according to the magazine.

Spain has been chosen as the country of honor at the Vinexpo wine fair this year, the goal of being to highlight Spain’s plethora of wines and constantly-changing food scene. Andrés said, “Many amazing Spanish wines remain unknown to the rest of the world, so the “Taste of Spain” […] gives us an opportunity to show these wines to the people of Bordeaux and beyond. Each region has its own local specialties, and the wines that they make there are perfect complements—if you are in Galicia, you eat seafood and drink Albariño; if you are in the south, you eat jamón and drink Sherry; if you are in Basque country, you drink Txakolina and eat pintxos. These pairings are absolutely beautiful.”
