Spanish Wine Exports, Where Quality Shines

The value of Spanish wine exports has continued to grow in the first half of 2018, a rotund testament to the quality of these products and how they are perceived globally


According to data released by the Observatorio Español del Mercado del Vino (OeMv) about Spanish wine exports during the first five months of 2018, international sales of Spanish wine increased in value by nearly 8% during this time period, at the same time that the overall volume of exported Spanish wine dropped by 8.6%, providing a clear indication of the uptick in sales of bottled wines and the decrease in bulk wine sales. This is supported by the fact that the average price of Spanish wine exports increased by 18.2% during this same period.

From January to May of 2018, exports of Spanish wine reached a quantity of 835 million liters, and a value of nearly 1.18 billion euros. This increase in value can be attributed in part to an increase in the value of still bottled wines and bottled sparkling wines.

In terms of destinations, the United States is the most important customer for bottled Spanish wine in terms of value, while Germany ranks number one in terms of volume.
