The results are in for Drinks Internationals’ ranking of The World’s Most Admired Wine Brands for 2019. This is the ninth year that this prestigious list has been compiled, and it is a joint effort between Drinks International’s academy of wine experts from all over the world and research company Wine Intelligence. The list is considered to be “a leading authority on the most influential and trending wine producers from around the world,” according to drinksint.com.

The winners were announced on March 17th at the first ever awards ceremony, held as part of the Prowein trade fair in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Several Spanish brands made the list: Torres, Marqués de Riscal, Vega Sicilia, Campo Viejo, and Ramón Bilbao (for the first time ever). Torres came in at number 2 as the Most Admired Wine Brand in Europe, Marqués de Riscal ranked 8th, Campo Viejo 13th, Vega Sicilia 14th, and Ramón Bilbao 40th.

Torres is a leading winery founded originally in 1870 and based in Spain, though the brand has wineries around the world, in Chile and the US. In Spain it operates in Vilafranca de Penedès. Marqués de Riscal is a premium winemaker that opened in 1858. It has many DOCa Rioja, DO Rueda, and Vinos de la Tierra Castilla y León wines. Vega Sicilia is in DO Ribera del Duero, in Valladolid. It was founded back in 1864, and some of its red wines sell for almost $400 a bottle. Campo Viejo is a leader on the Rioja wine scene and operates out of a start-of-the-art winery, where it makes unique, complex, refined wines. Ramón Bilbao has been in the business since 1924 and is located in Haro, La Rioja Alta, in DOCa Rioja. It produces 365,000 cases per year and has won many other awards for its wines.
