Bodegas Familiares Matarromera is expanding its empire with a new acquisition. The company, led by winemaker Carlos Moro, recently announced its purchase of a winery in Castrelo de Miño, Galicia.

This new project, which will be called Casar de Vide, is located in DO Ribeiro, and Moro’s goals are ambitious as he wants to become a leader in the region and stand out not just for his production methods, but also for the high quality of his wines. The goal at Casar de Vide will aim to produce elegant, subtle and fresh white wines made with local grapes which fully reflect the designation of origin. This winery was initially built in 1988 and expands over 2,200 square meters.

According to Moro, “This project responds to our desire to seek out new projects for making singular wine in the leading winemaking regions of Spain,” according to abc.es. With this new winery, the company now operates a total of 10 bodegas in DOs throughout Spain. This includes Ribera del Duero, home to Bodegas Matarromera, Emina Ribera and Renacimiento; Toro, where Bodega Cyan is located; Cigales, with Bodega Valdelosfrailes; Rioja, with Bodega Carlos Moro; and Rueda, Bodega Emina Rueda. The company oversees 700 hectares of vineyards, and is also involved in making olive oil.
