Wines from El Bierzo, in León, are taking a trip around the world, thanks to promotional efforts by the Regulatory Council.
First stop was in New York at the Spain’s Great Match event, held on October 4th, and they’ll be in attendance on November 2nd when that same event heads to Chicago. It’s worth noting that the US, followed by Canada, is the leading market for DO Bierzo wine exports.
The next stop is Asia, and specifically the HKTDC Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair, which will be held on November 9th. The wines will have their own stand at this major event, considered the gateway to Asia, and the council will organize two seminars, in Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Asia, and especially China, are markets of considerable interest, as wine consumption is growing spectacularly there.
The final stop on this year’s tour will be Brussels, where the council will attend the European Federation of Origin Wines conference on November 21st and 22nd. The Federation brings together DO wine organizations in the EU, in Spain, Portugal, Italy and France and offers a platform for coordinating promotional campaigns and exchanging expertise.
Next year will also be busy for the Regulatory Council, as DO Bierzo wines will be present at fairs across Europe, among them Alimentaria in Barcelona, Salon Gourmets in Madrid, Prowein in Dusseldorf, and London Wine in the UK.
