7 Wines from Spain on James Suckling’s List of Top 100 Wines of 2019

Tempranillo wines from La Rioja appeared time and again on the prestigious list, giving Spain a strong position among the best wines in the world

It’s official: James Suckling has officially released the list of Top 100 Wines of 2019 along with its Wine of the Year, and there are seven Spanish wines included on this ultra-prestigious list.

Coming in at number 3 is Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva 2011, from Bodegas Muga in La Rioja; in 20th place is Artadi La Poza de Ballesteros 2016, a 100% Tempranillo wine from Rioja Alavesa; in 29th place is Marqués de Murrieta Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 2010, which is also a Tempranillo wine from La Rioja; in 65th place is La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 904 2010, another Tempranillo from La Rioja; in 71st place: Artadi Viña El Pison 2016, yet another Tempranillo wine from La Rioja; in 76th position is Rioja wine Compañia de Vinos Telmo Rodriguez Las Beatas 2016; and coming in at 100 is Dominio de Pingus Pingus 2016, from Ribera del Duero.

The team behind James Suckling said it was an extraordinary year for wine, and “many regions shone in quality in our tastings this year,” which indubitably included Rioja, Spain.
