Andoni Luis Aduriz, in the Spotlight at the Berlin International Film Festival

The documentary on Mugaritz takes a closer look at how Aduriz puts his ideas into motion.



The Culinary Cinema section of the Berlin International Film Festival, which focuses on food and for which this year’s tagline is “Make Food Not War”, kicked off with a meal created by superstar Spanish chef Andoni Luis Aduriz.

The international premiere of Pep Gatell’s documentary entitled Off-Road. Mugaritz. Feeling a Way was highly anticipated. Aduriz, the chef at Mugaritz, teamed up with Gatell to make a movie focusing on the teamwork behind the restaurant and how the chef puts his ideas into practice. This film diverges from those of its kind as it does not include interviews or scripts. For the last decade, Mugaritz has been included in the top 10 on the list of the world’s 50 best restaurants. The screening was followed be a menu prepared by Aduriz.

A total of 11 full-length films are being featured, touching on the relationship between politics, culture and food, until February 19th. In the evenings, some of the main films screened will be followed by a special menu at Gropius Mirror restaurant prepared by top chefs such as Aduriz, Michael Kempf, Sven Elverfeld and Sonja Frühsammer.




A film documenting the chef’s success was premiered at the festival, and the chef prepared a stellar meal afterwards.
