The winner has been announced! Albert Manso, a sous chef at Tickets restaurant, in Barcelona, will be representing the Iberian and Mediterranean countries at the S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2020 finals, slated for May of 2020 in Milan, Italy.
Manso competed with another nine finalists, cooking live and eventually winning over both the public and the panel of judges.The latter included culinary legends like Fina Puigdevall, Lucía Freitas, Henrique Sá Pessoa, Ettore Botrini and Orel Kimchi, coming from Spain, Portugal, Greece and Israel. The final was hosted at the luxurious W Hotel in Barcelona. He competed against the following chefs: André Cameirão, Spiros Kasselouris, Erasmia Balaska, Manuel Bentabol, Andrea Ravasio, Nelson Roque, Mengxin Zhou, Olga Feferkuchen and Óscar Dayas Rodríguez.
Manso was chosen unanimously by the panel after he prepared a spectacular dish called Quail & Wine, using three different techniques. He was mentored by Tickets chef Fran Agudo. He will go head-to-head with 11 other young chefs from around the world when he heads to Milan for the competition finals, which is now celebrating its 120th anniversary. Other awards presented at the ceremony included the Acqua Panna Award for Connection in Gastronomy, which went to Oscar Dayas; the Fine Dining Lovers Community Award, which went to Andrea Ravasio; and the S.Pellegrino Award for Social Responsibility, for Mengxin Zhou.
