The 17th edition of the Reale Seguros Madrid Fusión Culinary Summit has announced the winner of the 2019 Chef of the Year Award. The distinction went to Basque chef Eneko Atxa, who received the award from Santiago Alfonso, from Grupo Consentino. The award is sponsored by Dekton, which has been an active supporter of Madrid Fusión for the last 13 editions.
This distinction also recognizes the chef’s commitment to creative cuisine and his focus on including so many environmental elements from his unique surroundings—nature, products, people, flavors—in his search for excellence.
Said Atxa in madridfusion.net, “I feel rewarded when I attend conferences like Madrid Fusión, especially when people stop me in the hallways to tell me they like what we’re doing… I am grateful to Madrid Fusión. When I first came in 2007, nobody knew me, and it’s wonderful to be here again, receiving this award, which holds a special meaning. We firmly believe in what we’re doing and that it’s a tool so that others can feel valued and that their work is understood”.
The award also recognizes Sherpa founder Xabi Uribe-Etxebarria for creating and promoting his innovative platform, which is capable of tracking the best food suppliers around the world.
