The 5th edition of Saveur d’Espagne (Flavors of Spain) was recently held in Casablanca, from November 21st to the 23rd. The goal of this event was to raise the profile of Spanish gastronomy in Morocco and to support the relationship between professionals and businesses in the food sector, hospitality industry and agribusiness in both countries.
For the first time, a tapas competition was held during this edition, and five of the most well-known restaurants in Casablanca participated: Tiki Tapas, The Tavern of Dauphin, La Bodega, Casa José, and Don Lucas. Their creations were judged by a group of Moroccan and Spanish chefs, including Hicham El Heddani, Ander Eguidazu, and Meryem Tahirir. In the end, Tiki Tapas was crowned as the winner. Tiki Tapas is a gastrobar that serves authentic Spanish flavors to the locals, from Ibérico ham and blood sausage from Burgos to croquettes, paella and salmorejo.
At this year’s event, 13 Spanish companies, many of them leaders in their segments in Spain and Europe, participated in various activities including training courses and B2B meetings with companies in Morocco. The event was organized by ICEX and the Spanish Embassy’s Economic and Commercial Office in Casablanca.
