Garnacha wines are getting their day in the sun, thanks to Garnacha Day, which will be held in Stockholm, Sweden on September 16th. This promotional event, which is being organized by ICEX, will focus on white and red Garnacha grapes, and the goal is to highlight the sector as being modern and innovative and focused on sustainability.
It will shine a light on native Garnacha grapes in particular, which have been used to create wines that have proven to be extremely popular around the world in recent years.
This event, aimed at trade professionals, will be organized into three parts. First there will be a fair for importers from Sweden that offer Spanish Garnacha wines. They will put their wines on display for visitors to sample. Up to 15 exhibitors are expected to participate.
Another component will be an exhibition, which will feature regulatory councils and other groups of producers from areas where Garnacha is grown. They will promote the producer zones from which they come, as well as those wineries that don’t already have a presence in Sweden.
The final component of the event will be a Garnacha master class, led by Fernando Mora, MW. Mora will cover all of the areas in Spain where this grape is grown, offering an overview of the current state of the industry in Spain. During this 90-minute class, he will also feature 8 different wines for attendees to sample and learn about.
This event will kick off a week-long celebration of Garnacha, leading up to World Garnacha Day, which is September 20th. A range of activities will be held during the week, at restaurants and wine bars across Stockholm.
