The Michelin Guide has officially released the list of starred restaurants for the UK and Ireland. This prestigious guide sent its inspectors out, as it does every year, to find “the places that encapsulate everything incredible about the world of food and drink,” according to greatbritishchefs.com. A total of 21 new stars were awarded in the 2019 edition, and plenty of Spanish names made the grade.
Barrafina Adelaide Street is known for serving super authentic Spanish fare and having a more adventurous menu than the other Barrafina outposts. Angel Zapata Martin is the whiz in the kitchen. It’s got a wonderful drinks list and has won countless awards. Barrafina has maintained its single Michelin star status.
Paco Tapas, in Bristol, also renewed its Michelin star. This family-run restaurant aims to transport customers to Andalusia. Chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias has created a menu which “combines traditional tapas with personal interpretations… whilst staying true to the vibrant and comforting flavors of his heritage.”
Last but not least, Nieves Barragan’s restaurant Sabor, in Mayfair, scored its first Michelin star. Offering food that aims to represent all of Spain, this restaurant takes visitors “on a journey from the tapas bars of Andalucía through to the asadors of Castile and the seafood restaurants of Galicia.” There is a strong focus on using traditional ingredients and cooking techniques, and the food is a loyal reflection of the most emblematic flavors of Spain.
