The city of Valencia is furthering its plans to become the future site of a World Center for Sustainable Food.

The planned center will be a joint effort between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and Valencia’s City Hall, as per a collaboration agreement to this effect signed by both entities in 2016.

The purpose of this World Center for Sustainable Food is to promote environmentally responsible and nutritious foods, and underline the importance of healthy diets all over the world.

One of the focuses will be on improving education about nutrition and health for children, as well as combating hunger and malnutrition.

Last fall, Valencia hosted a mayors’ summit for representatives of the more than one hundred and thirty cities that signed the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact. Valencia is one of the leaders of this pact, which was created to promote fairer and more sustainable food systems in urban areas.
