New, Unique Gin Released After Spending 500+ Days Aging in Vermouth Barrels

This elegant easy-to-drink gin, from Turmeon, has Mediterranean notes of rosemary and dill and hints of wood and sherry

There’s a new drink and it’s taking the world by storm this holiday season. Turmeon, which is part of Bodegas Jaime, is releasing a new gin called 500 y Pico, as it’s called, created during the pandemic and with a fully “pandemic spirit” as the gin was “confined” for 500 and some odd days (as its name suggests) in an oak barrel that previously held vermouth.

The way this project came to be is interesting: a barrel used for vermouth but filled with high-quality gin was stuck at the company’s Zaragoza facility when everything closed down. When the company reopened and discovered the gin, they discovered it had taken on a lovely topaz color and had a very unique aroma, with Mediterranean notes of rosemary and dill, which came from the vermouth, as well as hints of wood and sherry. This extremely smooth and elegant gin is easy to drink and has a strong aftertaste, along with notes of grapes, raisins, peach and honey and a long and pleasant finish with vanilla and nut nuances. All of the profits from the sale of this gin will be donated to Fundación C.E.D.E.S., which helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
