The biggest novelty in this year's guide, which includes maps, restaurant reviews, hotel recommendations, sightseeing suggestions, tips for travelers and more; is the new "Inspirations" booklet. Featuring more than forty articles about routes and destinations all over Spain, this book is the perfect companion for all different types of adventurous gastronomes. Urban destinations share the limelight with rural treasures in this "inspirational" guide, which also includes ideas for family travel.
And of course, the release of the new edition of this guide goes hand in hand with the presentation of the 2018 Repsol "soles", or suns – designations of excellence based on a prestigious rating system. Of the approximately 1,800 restaurants included in this venerated guide, 528 have Repsol suns. Of these, 37 restaurants boast three soles, or suns – the guide's maximum distinction – while 159 establishments have two soles and 332 have one sol.
Not only were there seventy new soles handed out this year, but two restaurants – Diego Guerrero's DSTAgE in Madrid, and Oriol Castro, Eduart Xatruch and Mateu Casaña's Disfrutar in Barcelona – received the coveted third sun this year. Other recognitions of note include two suns for Paco Morales' Noor restaurant in Córdoba.
