Spanish Start-Up Seeks to Revolutionize Food System With Plant-Based Foods

Spanish start-up Foods of Tomorrow is doing what it does best: working to bring its innovative product to a larger market with a focus on its commitment to plant-based gastronomy.

This forward-looking company fully believes that “getting meat directly from vegetables is ‘the best way to preserve our culinary traditions sustainably without sacrificing a great experience,’” according to foodingredientsfirst.com. At the moment, the company has a product under its Heura brand that tastes like chicken, but it’s a plant-based protein, and it is currently sold throughout Spain in 900 different locations.

Over the course of this year, it will become available at leading retailers. The company hopes to have a presence at 3,500 points-of-sale within 9 months and at 5,000 within 18 months. It’s also looking to expand throughout Europe, specifically in France, Italy, the UK, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria and the Netherlands, and beyond in locations like Chile, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Foods of Tomorrow’s goal is to “offer easy to cook and delicious plant-based options with the experience of meat, but with all the benefits of vegetables.” The company also aims to support health and the environment, and being located in the Mediterranean certainly gives it access to an excellent source of ingredients. Its ultimate—and ambitious—goal is to “revolutionize the food system” first in Spain and then throughout the world.
