Garnacha Blanca Wines Stand Out at Professional Tasting in Decanter’s March Issue

 Sarah Jane Evans MW and Pedro Ballesteros MW tasted over 50 wines and then picked the best standouts

A recent tasting of wines made with Garnacha Blanca grapes by wine experts such as Sarah Jane Evans MW, Pedro Ballesteros MW and Pierre Mansour was featured in the March issue of Decanter magazine. The trio participated in a tasting of 54 wines in total, submitted by UK vendors, which featured wines made 100% from Garnacha Blanca or with blends of 50% at least. The wines also had to be available to consumers in the US and the UK. Evans, Ballesteros and Mansour deemed two wines as outstanding and highly recommended another 15. Although this grape variety is not as popular as others, producers are creating very special wines.

Among the top scoring wines were Herència Altés, La Serra Blanc, Terra Alta, 2017; Editària, Selecció, Terra Alta, Catalonia, Spain, 2016; Scala Dei, Massipa, Priorat, Catalonia, Spain, 2017; Herència Altés, Trementinaire Garnatxa Blanca, Terra Alta; Coca i Fitó, d’Or, Terra Alta, Catalonia, Spain, 2016; Bodegas Frontonio, Botijo Blanco Garnacha Blanca; Costers del Priorat, Blanc de Pissarres, Priorat, 2018; Herència Altés, Benufet, Terra Alta, Catalonia, Spain, 2018; Mas Doix, Murmuri, Priorat, Catalonia, Spain, 2018; and Morlanda, Priorat, Catalonia, Spain, 2017, among others.
