Spanish beers emerged triumphant at the World Beer Challenge – X International Brewery Awards 2020. With 355 beers competing for a coveted medal, Spanish beers truly stood out, taking home multiple gold and silver distinctions.
This is the first international competition to be supervised by the Wine and Spirits World Observatory and it’s the most credible international event of its kind, as prestigious brewmasters regularly participate.
In total there were 13 gold medal winners. This included three beers from Galicia-based brewery Hijos de Rivera: 1906 Reserva Especial, 1906 Red Vintage and 1906 Black Coupage; five beers from Mahou San Miguel: Manila de San Miguel, San Miguel Radler, Selecta de San Miguel, San Miguel Yakima Valley IPA and San Miguel Especial; Zaragoza-based brewery Grupo Ágora, with two beers: Ambar Export and Ambar Terrae; and three beers from Mahou: Maestra Dunkel, Barrica Bourbon de Mahou and Mahou 0.0 Tostada.
Another 12 beers took home silver medals. This included five from Grupo Agora: Ambar 10, Ambar Especial, Moritz 7, Moritz Red IPA and Ambar Avena; and six from Mahou: Mahou Maestra Double Lúpulo, Barrica 12 Meses, Mahou Cinco Estrellas Sin Gluten, Barrica Original de Mahou, Mahou Cinco Estrellas, and Mahou Cinco Estrellas Session IPA. Mahou San Miguel’s Magna de San Miguel beer also received a silver medal.
