This year, Spain has two new representatives on this prestigious list, which is published annually by Restaurant magazine. They are Elkano restaurant in Getaria (Basque Country) a stalwart of quality and fine ingredients, and Enigma, Albert Adrià’s new haute cuisine venture in Barcelona. The two restaurants have entered onto the list in 77th and 95th place, respectively.
Additionally, several other Spanish restaurants have retained their presence on this ranking, including Dabiz Muñoz’s Madrid restaurant DiverXO, which comes in 96th; Restaurante Martín Berasategui in Lasarte, which was ranked 76th; Restaurante Quique Dacosta in Denia, which is now ranked 68th on the list; and Josean Alija's Nerua restaurant in the Guggenheim Bilbao, which came in at number 57. Incidentally, the latter of these chefs will help play host at the gala celebration this year, which will be held at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.
Notably absent from this initial ranking is Disfrutar, the Barcelona restaurant of Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas, which made its debut last year at number 55. The obvious assumption is that it will have entered into the Top 50 ranking this year, although we will have to wait until next week to find out!
