Wine Importers from Sweden Visit Spanish Wineries

New “Reverse Mission” invites the winners of an annual Spanish wine competition sponsored by the Spanish Trade Commission in Stockholm to visit Spanish wine regions.

DOCa La Rioja

Three wine importers from Sweden will be the guests of Wines from Spain next week as they embark on a tour that will take them to the Spanish wine regions of Rioja, Txakoli de Álava, Txakoli de Bizkaia and Txakoli de Getaria. This journey is the result of an annual competition for which four teams of participants were asked to answer a series of questions about the world of Spanish wines, as well as carry out two blind tastings in which they were tasked with identifying the wine, region, grapes, wine maker, vintage, etc.

In the end, the victorious team was the one comprised of Sara Wetterling of Wine Stories, Peter Eriksson of Words&Wines and Erik Grödahl of Terrific Wines – three well-known figures from the Swedish wine world who will be accompanied on their winners’ tour by two of the competition’s judges: journalists Maria Collsiöö and Jan Holmström, the latter of which is also the Brand Manager for Ward Wines.

The journey begins

The trip kicks off on May 13th with the group’s arrival in Logroño, the capital of famed Spanish wine region La Rioja, and will last through May 18th, 2018.

Then it is on to a presentation by the Regulatory Board of DO Txakoli de Álava on the afternoon of May 16th, followed by visits to Artomaña Txakolina winery and Bodegas Goianea. The evening will end with a dinner offered by the Regulatory Board of wine region DO Txakoli de Bizkaia in Bilbao, featuring approximately twenty wines from eight local wineries.
