Organized by the Regulatory Board of DO Sherry wines and Fedejerez (the association of Sherry exporters, the 2017 edition of this biennial food and sherry pairing event will bring together acclaimed chef-sommelier teams from the same restaurants in six different countries. This years teams will be representing Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, the United States and the United Kingdom. The finalists are Humphrey (Belgium), Falsled Kro (Denmark), Ödenturm (Germany), Podium onder de Dom (the Netherlands), two-Michelin-starred Casa Marcial (Spain), En Rama (the USA) and one-Michelin-starred The Ritz London (the UK).
Once again, each duo is tasked with creating a three-course menu (including dessert) that is paired with three Jerez wines. The wines must be chosen from the wide range of dry (Manzanilla, Fino, Amontillado, Oloroso and Palo Cortado), semi-sweet (Cream, Medium and Pale Cream), or sweet (Moscatel and Pedro Jimenez) Sherries from Consejo Regulador de los Denominaciones de Origen Jerez y Manzanilla (Regulatory Board of the Designations of Origin Jerez/Sherry and Manzanilla).
The outcome will be judged by a panel of prestigious experts that, this time around, will include famed Spanish sherry wine maker Beltrán Domecq, Josep Roca of El Celler de Can Roca and chef Andoni Luis Aduriz of Mugaritz, among others.
At the same time, more than 600 participants and attendees of the Copa Jerez will also be welcomed into the Sherry Showroom, a wine exhibition that is be held in tandem with this world event.
