The program "Viña Ardanza Solidario" created by noteworthy Rioja winery La Rioja Alta, has been up and running for over a decade in various third world countries - donating 1% (up from 0.7%) of its annual profits to agricultural projects.
This year, the program – which debuted its new name "Viña Ardanza Solidario" – financed new initiatives in Mali, Tanzania, Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The winery, which was the first in Spain to begin donating an annual percentage of its profits to charitable causes, has thus far contributed more than 710,000 euros to international cooperation projects.
Grupo La Rioja Alta S.A. was founded in the famous "Barrio de la Estación" neighborhood of the town of Haro (La Rioja), and the company currently boasts wineries in three different Spanish wine making regions (Rioja, Rías Baixas and Ribera del Duero). Its wines include well-known names like Viña Ardaza, Viña Alberdi, Torre de Oña, Lagar de Cervera and Áster, among others.
