Bodegas Riojanas has a new, unique project that has the potential to change the industry. It recently teamed up with Chinese company and the consulting company EY to launch Tattoo Wine, the first platform of its kind, which combines an online store with blockchain technology. The goal is to ensure both the authenticity and the provenance of wines and it’s the only online wine store to use blockchain.
The Spanish winery the primary partner in Spain in this pioneering project as it represents a totally new way to sell wine. Tattoo Wine stands for Traceability, Authenticity, Transparency, Trade, Origin and Opinion. The primary goal is to boost consumer confidence in wine while also building a transparent, globalized network. The focus is primarily on Asia, specifically China, Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Singapore. Consumption of wines from Europe is growing, which will allow Bodegas Riojanas to expand its presence in other markets.
The use of blockchain technology will allow the quality, origin and authenticity of the wines to be traced, and each bottle will have a unique QR code which will provide detailed information about where the wine comes from, the vineyards, the grape harvest, the grape varieties used in production, the casks used for ageing, tasting notes, and awards received.
