Spanish companies will be heading to Japan for the Spain Wine & Gourmet Fair 2018, on October 24th and 25th in Tokyo. Organized jointly by ICEX and the Spanish Embassy’s Economic and Commercial Office in Tokyo, the goal of this event is to increase distribution of Spanish products, in particular wines and gourmet products, throughout Japan.
The fair caters mainly to industry professionals, i.e. procurement managers from major supermarket chains, importers and distributors of wine and gourmet items, members of the HoReCa channel, and the trade media.
As for Spanish participants, wineries that don’t already operate in Japan will be attending, as will producers of food products that don’t have a foothold in Japan and those that do have a presence but are looking to expand it.
The types of gourmet food products that will be in attendance include olive oil, pork products and frozen and pre-cooked foods, and those that are most interesting for this specific market include traditional handmade pastries; gluten-free pasta, bread and cookies; fruit juices in small packages; vegetable oils other than olive oil; and unique, limited production items such as Marcona almond oil and organic chocolate.
This event is also interesting in view of the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, which is expected to enter into force in 2019 and would reduce the cost of entry of European wine into the Japanese market.
