Several leading wineries are taking a unique approach to boosting their internationalization. Bodegas Ignacio Marín, Muga, Dominio de Pingus, Bagarda, Vega Sicilia, and Bodegas Portia, among others, have joined forces to create the Chinese and Spanish Wine Association, the goal of which is to promote the culture and sales of top-quality Spanish wine in China. China is, indubitably, an important market for Spanish winemakers.
The event to celebrate the creation of the association was attended by regulatory council presidents from Rioja and Ribera del Duero, among other prestigious guests, of which there were 100. This included representatives from the Chinese Embassy and food giant COFCO. It was hosted at Bodegas Portia.
According to Francisco Honrubia, Managing Director of Grupo Faustino, “We need to improve the standing of Spanish wines in China and join forces with other wineries and groups to promote our wines and raise awareness about Spanish culture. [This project] represents progress for all of the Spanish wineries looking to sell their wines in China,” according to europapress.es.
