Spanish Wines on Everyone’s Lips in Guatemala City

The 3rd edition of the Spanish Wine Festival included a master class, a tasting, and two “Wine Tunnel” experiences led by sommeliers

Spanish wine recently took center stage in Guatemala at the 3rd Annual Spanish Wine Festival. Organized by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Guatemala, this increasingly popular event was held on September 6th and 7th and was especially important since it was coincided with the 90th anniversary of that Chamber of Commerce. It was hosted at the upscale Barceló Hotel in Guatemala City.

There were 11 importers present, showcasing a wide variety of wines from different Designations of Origin. The goal of this event was to ultimately serve attendees some of Spain’s best wines. But Spanish wines shared the spotlight with other top-flight products, such as cheese, ham, and olive oil, among others.

Other activities at the fair included a master class, during which attendees learned how to make cocktails with Spanish liquors; a tasting/competition, which involved a blind tasting of white, red, sparkling and rosé wines; an area dedicated to premium and ultra-premium wines; and two Wine Tunnel experiences, one covering Spain and the other covering DOs. With regard to the latter, participants were able to sample different wines and learn about how they are made and their unique characteristics, explained by a sommelier or other experts.
