Earlier this week, Wines from Spain welcomed the following six wine experts from various media outlets and wine-centric organizations: Sarah Tracey of Martha Stewart Living and the Wine Director for Rouge Tomate and Villanelle; Josh Greene of Wine & Spirits; Leslie Sbrocco of the TODAY Show; Tom Mullen of Forbes; Mario Luna of Jaleo/Think Food Group; and Rick Fisher of the Wine Scholar’s Guild.
The tour kicked off this past April 22, as the group traveled to the gorgeous volcanic island of Lanzarote, where they would spend two days visiting the island and the wineries of Designation of Origin Lanzarote. These included Bodegas El Grifo, Bodegas Los Bermejos and Bodegas Rubicón – three iconic wineries from this area whose excellent dry Malvasía wines are acclaimed near and far.
The tour then traveled to the lush island of Tenerife, where the wine experts spent the morning of April 24 touring Bodegas Viñátigo in DO Ycoden Daute-Isora, as well as Bodegas Tajinaste and Bodegas Suertes del Marqués, the latter two of which form part of DO Valle de la Orotava. They then spent the evening enjoying the sunset from the top of Mount Teide and had dinner at the foot of the mountain, prepared by chef Erlantz Gorostiza of two-Michelin-starred restaurant M.B. at The Ritz-Carlton Abama Hotel.
Today's schedule continues around this diverse island, with visits to various wineries in Designation of Origin Tacoronte-Acentejo. These include Bodegas Monje, Bodegas El Lomo and Bodegas Marba; while the tour of this wine region continues tomorrow, April 26, at Bodegas Cráter, followed by a wine tasting at Casa del Vino in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The group will round off their Spanish wine experience in Madrid on April 27, with visits to Bernabeleva and Bodegas Marañones wineries in DO Vinos de Madrid (San Martín de Valdeiglesias), followed by lunch at Las Moradas de San Martín.
