Spanish Wineries Recognized at the Best of Wine Tourism Awards
The results of the 2019 Great Wine Capitals Best of Wine Tourism Awards have hit the streets. These awards aim to recognize innovation and excellence in wine tourism among the world’s top wine regions and “to reward businesses in each member region that have distinguished themselves in terms of the excellence of their facilities and delivering quality experiences to visitors in various categories". Additionally, they help raise awareness about wineries and their wine tourism options vis-à-vis potential customers.
As for the winners in Spain, the Rioja Wine Train was named the Global Winner, and consists of a dramatized route between Logroño and Haro, in cooperation with Spain’s National Railway Network, RENFE. Participants travel among the vineyards to enjoy the landscape and wine and architectural heritage.
Villabuena de Álava’s La Ruta de Bodegas was named Regional Winner. This tour allows visitors to travel to four different wineries and sample their wines and tapas, and concludes with a guided tasting at Viura Hotel’s wine bar.
The Muwi La Rioja Music Fest was also named Regional Winner. This 3-day event is held at Logroño winery Bodegas Franco Españolas, and the goal is to promote wine among younger people, offering Rioja wine, tapas, and an outstanding line-up of well-known musical acts.
The final Regional Winner from Spain was Bohedal Bodega Boutique, recognized for its original wine tourism experience featuring an intergenerational project involving the women behind the winery.
