Cheesemakers, cheese fans and cheese professionals will be descending on Oviedo, in Asturias, this fall for the World Cheese Awards. The Guild of Fine Food officially announced that the 33rd edition of these prestigious awards will be held in the Spanish city on November 4th and that the competition will be held as part of the Asturias Paraíso Natural International Cheese Festival 2020, running from the 4th to the 7th. The World Cheese Awards will officially kick off one of the year’s most important gastronomic events.
The numbers for 2020 are expected to surpass last year’s, when more than 3,800 people from over 40 countries attended the event, held in Bergamo, Italy. The judging panel alone comprises experts from over 30 different countries and competing cheeses will be coming from five continents.
Asturias will be fully in the spotlight as people learn about the region’s extensive cheese-producing experience and tradition, and a wide range of activities will be organized, including a cheese market, an exhibition, a scientific conference on cheese, guided tours, tastings, and a even comedy show called Gastro Cheese Comedy.
Said the Managing Director of the Guild of Fine Food, John Farrand, “Thousands of food professionals, procurement managers, retailers and tourists will come together in the city to enjoy one of the largest cheese events ever held, leaving a lasting legacy for the region’s food and drink.”
