The 2020 Michelin Guide to Spain & Portugal will be officially presented in Seville, on November 20th, at the Lope de Vega Theater and the Casino de la Exposición.

Andalusia is gaining traction in the fine dining space: in 2009, it was home to just 8 restaurants with Michelin stars, and in 2019, that number increased to 18, although there were 173 restaurants in the region highlighted in that edition (including locales with Bib Gourmand and Plato Michelin distinctions). It’s also worth noting that Andalusia welcomes around 650,000 tourists each year who visit to sample the region’s culinary treasures.

The event in November will attract leading figures in culture and gastronomy, as well as journalists, food critics, government officials and, of course, chefs. The gala dinner will feature dishes prepared by Michelin star chefs in Andalusia, coordinated by Ángel León, whose famous restaurant Aponiente holds 3 Michelin stars.

Said Mayte Carreño, the Commercial Director of Michelin Travel Partner Spain Portugal, “The commitment from public institutions, the quality of Andalusian gastronomy and its commitment to excellence, and the importance of Andalusia and Seville as leading tourist destinations make Seville the perfect location to host this major gastronomy party.”

The Michelin Guide will be celebrating as well next year, as the 2020 edition will represent 110 years of the Spain & Portugal guide, which began in 1910.
