Video: Three Surprising Spanish Wines from… the Sommelier at La Enoteca Restaurant in Barcelona
Our journey through the wines of some of the best restaurants in Spain takes us to Barcelona. Here, sommelier Eduard Caldero presents us with three magnificent Spanish wines from the wine cellar at two-Michelin-starred La Enoteca restaurant. Have you tried them?
Sommeliers are key elements that allow the machinery of a quality restaurant to operate to perfection. This can be felt as soon as one enters La Enoteca, a two Michelin-starred restaurant helmed by chef Paco Pérez (who also runs Miramar restaurant in Girona and Das Stue in Berlin), located in one of Barcelona’s most luxurious hotels, the Hotel Arts.
La Enoteca’s name, which translates to “the wine cellar,” says it all. Diners immediately take note of the meticulous care that is given to the wine selection here. This is left in the capable hands of young sommelier Eduard Caldero, who moves easily around the tables and answers customers’ questions in a highly pedagogical tone.
In this video, Caldero presents three Spanish wines that, though very different from one another, share a criteria for excellence. A white wine from DO Penedès that represents a joint project between the restaurant and Alemany i Corrio winery, a red Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon wine that is emblematic of Castell de Perelada winery in DO Empordà, and a 100% Albariño white wine made by Pazo de Señorans in DO Rías Baixas that has been aged in a very special way. Shall we taste them together? Cheers!
