The prestigious James Beard Foundation has announced the 2020 nominees for the James Beard Awards. Nominees were announced in 60 categories. The winners will be announced on September 25th and broadcast live on the Foundation’s Twitter feed. There are several nods to Spain on the list.
In the Craig Claiborne Distinguished Restaurant Review Award category, one of the nominees is the article “The 20 Most Delicious Things at Mercado Little Spain,” by Pete Wells for The New York Times.
In the Outstanding Restaurant category (presented by S.Pellegrino® sparkling natural mineral water), one of the nominees is Jaleo restaurant in Washington, DC, by José Andrés. This award seeks to recognize a restaurant that offers “consistent excellence in food, atmosphere, service and operations.”
In the Outstanding Restaurateur category, Alex Raij and Eder Montero, based in New York City, are nominated. They run the restaurants La Vara, Saint Julivert Fisherie and Txikito. This award goes to professionals who “demonstrate creativity in entrepreneurship and integrity in restaurant operations” and have been in the industry for at least a decade.
And finally, in the Best Chef: Southeast category, Katie Button, who runs Cúrate restaurant in Asheville, North Carolina, was nominated.
