New Appointees at Dubai’s El Sur Aim to Raise Awareness about Spanish Food

El Sur serves contemporary Spanish food, and the new head chef and general manager are looking to shake up the current tapas scene

El Sur Dubai

Popular Spanish restaurant El Sur, at Dubai’s Westin Hotel, has two new appointees on its team: a new head chef, Daniel Pérez, and a general manager, Roberto Ávila.

Both Pérez and Ávila are really stirring things up in their new positions at the award-winning locale, as they’re really looking to school people on authentic Spanish cuisine and shake up the tapas dining scene with modern dishes that pay homage to their roots.

Pérez, who originally hails from Andalusia, has worked throughout Spain as well as in Dubai and was previously El Sur’s chef de partie before becoming head chef. Avila has worked internationally, in Mexico, the UAE and Europe, finally settling in at El Sur.

Highlights from the menu include liquid marinated olives; drunk melon with Ibérico ham; sea bream with green mojo, coriander and olive oil; and paprika roasted octopus with potato foam and quince cheese. El Sur prides itself on serving authentic dishes made from top-flight ingredients, holding special pairing dinners to raise awareness about Spain’s best regional recipes, and organizing vermouth happy hours.
