Wines from Rioja in the Spotlight in NYC for the Rioja Railway Wine Experience

The first edition of this event aims to highlight wines from the region and Barrio de la Estación in Haro, La Rioja, as a leading wine tourism destination

Spanish wines from Rioja are invading New York City as part of the Rioja Railway Wine Experience.

This event, which will be held on May 22nd, will put on display the wines from five of the leading wineries from that region. They are Bodegas Bilbaínas Viña Pomal, Bodegas Muga, Bodegas Roda, La Rioja Alta, and Bodegas Gómez Cruzado. This special event will take place at The High Line in Manhattan, an elevated linear park built on a former New York Central Railroad spur.

The Wine Experience will comprise a series of very special activities, including a tasting for professional journalists and tasters from North America, led by none other than Pedro Ballesteros MW. He will talk about the famous railway station and neighboring area, Barrio de la Estación, considered the “birthplace” of the local wine industry in Haro, La Rioja. There will also be a Grand Tasting for trade professionals and another for the public. Around 600 people are expected to attend the event, where they will sip on Rioja wines and snack on tapas prepared by leading US chefs.

In addition to promoting these wines from the region, they also seek to highlight Barrio de la Estación as a leading destination for wine tourism. This is the first edition of the Wine Experience, and 30% of the funds raised from ticket sales will be donated to the James Beard Foundation.
